3/17/19

5-foot-9, 190-pound, strong, solid athletic frame, put together well, has strength throughout. A right-handed hitting catcher, at the plate, shows good strength to all fields. The stance is open, gets back to even on foot strike.  The hands are loose at the shoulders, with tilt, separation from frame in loading phase, hands and weight stay back. The swing is level to up, keeps the barrel in the zone, looks to keep hands inside the baseball driving the baseball from gap to gap. The tee exit velocity is advanced, clocked at 89 mph, took two solid rounds of batting practice. Defensively, had a pop time of pop time of 2.03-2.12, feet and hands work with ease. Feet look to be quick, get in line with target with little wasted movement. The arm works out of a natural clean slot, clocked at 71 mph. All throws were on the bag, plus feel for accuracy. Solid catch and throw prospect, shows to have the ability to handle the bat.

3.25.18

5-foot-6, 155 pounds, thick frame, sloped shoulders, average athletic build. Strength to the upper and lower halves. Ran a 7.99 sixty yard dash. As a hitter, Perry begins with a wide base, open-to-even stance, and an inverted lead foot. Puts weight on the front foot while waiting for the pitch, before readying on the back leg with a stride towards the ball. Quiet hands that work at shoulder height before separating from the body. Made hard contact with a level swing in the cage, good hip rotation and strong one hand finish. His tee exit velocity was measured at 83 MPH. A catcher, Perry has balance behind the plate and feet that set a little more than shoulder width apart. Throws were clocked at 66 MPH out of the chute, to go with a pop time band of 2.22-2.31. Will need to speed up the transition from catch to throw moving forward, with a quicker first step. Throws come from a high ¾ slot. Could see a velocity spike as he refines his mechanics on throws by getting his whole body into it. Shows firm hands as a receiver and a feel for framing pitches. Perry has the tools to stay behind the plate and did well with the bat during the workout. Development in some of the nuances to catching is expected as he progresses over the next two years. We’ll be keeping an eye on Perry moving forward.

3-19-17

5-foot-6, 155-pound, smaller, thin athletic frame, has plenty of room to fill out and add weight on. A right-handed hitter, the feet are even, slightly wider than shoulder width, sits in a small crouch, weight is balanced in setup. The hands are set at shoulder height, for timing uses a small leg kick, gains ground with it, the lower half is under control and helps produce pop to the swing. The swing is flat and level through the zone, the hands work with ease, finishes the swing high with one hand. The approach is more middle of the field to pull, took two solid rounds of batting practice. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 78 mph and ran a 7.99 sixty-yard dash. Defensively, had a pop time of 2.22-2.31 and arm was clocked at 65 mph from the chute. The setup is wide, hands are strong when receiving the pitch, did a good job of keeping the baseball in strike zone. The feet showed to be quick, right for replaced left foot in the transfer, arm action had length to it for a catcher. Throws were uphill at times, needs to stay lower throughout release. At third base, showed soft hands and kept feet moving towards target, moved well to glove side with flow. The arm was clocked at 64 mph, throws were up hill, needs to get out front and finish off the throw, staying working from the ground up. Good looking young hitter, has strength in his swing.

Sixty-yard dash: 7.99

Exit Velocity: 78 mph

Arm Velocity: C-65 mph, 3B-64 mph
