Hartsell is a projectable 6-foot-1, 170 pound Boston College commit. The left-handed hitting infielder had an athletic swing. His set-up is balanced with the hands relaxed off the back shoulder. The load uses a knee slide to get the weight to the back side. The hands really work with his swing! He whips the bat-head through the zone and shows the ability to drive the ball gap to gap. He also showed an exit velocity of 84 mph off the tee.
Defensively, he showed a strong arm at 80 mph across the diamond. The feet are light and he moves well laterally. The actions are fluid and he breaks down into a balanced fielding position. The hands are soft as he transitions through the ground ball into the throwing position. He creates a good line with the target and stays through the play.
