It was only a single inning of eight pitches in relief against Georgetown, but the Musketeers’ right-hander showed a live fastball up to 95 and a wipeout slider at 83-84. At 6-foot-3, 200 pounds and long and loose in back, there’s more in the tank for him after missing the entire 2022 season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. With a season ERA of 8.10 in just 16.2 innings, Boyle doesn’t have the record of performance to be selected in the top 10 rounds, but the raw stuff is all there for a scout to dream on.
10/22/22
vs Kentucky: The quick-armed right-hander did not pitch during his first two collegiate seasons after undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2021. Now healthy, his fastball topped at an easy 95 and sat 93-94 with a high spin rate (2500+ rpm) during his lone inning of work. As a separator from many others with mid-90s velocity, Boyle’s hard breaking, 83-85 mph curveball also generated swing/miss. It was an out pitch that he consistently repeated on this look. Athletic with a quick arm and easy delivery at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, Boyle is a Day Two draft follow for 2023.
