Strong, compact, stocky look to an athletic body. Good overall body definition. Has an open stance, slight forward tilt preload with a medium soft suspended leg kick. His hands were kept back behind loaded and transfer of a strong barrel to ball. Two-handed follow thru swing with a launch angle that was strong and full. Not much weight transfer forwards as he sits on his backside. Small lift out and up on angle. Evans ran a 6.81 60-yard dash.
6/11/19
5-foot-10, 170-pound OF / RHP with an exit velocity of 91 mph. At the plate, starts in an open stance with a slight bend in his knee, bat flat behind his head and a high elbow. During load, raises his elbow slightly and coils his hands. Has a tight swing but gets off his back foot well. In OF, shows athletic movements; gets to the ball and reads fly balls well; stays behind fly balls to generate power in his throws; 85 mph position velocity. On the mound, uses a high leg kick and has a 3/4 arm slot; stays on top of pitches; 82-83 mph FB with a max of 84. Shows depth on off-speed pitches; locates well; 70-73 mph CB. Recorded a 60 time of 7.10.
2/23/2019: Mitchell Evans, OF/RHP, Center Grove HS, 2022, 5 foot 10, 170 pounds, ran a 7.00 60, had a max exit velo of 89 mph, and threw 84 mph from the outfield. Good rhythm to load, barrel gets on plane well and has bat speed. Needs to sure up balance in lower half at the end of the swing. On the mound throws from mid ¾ slot with a shorter arm action. Fastball was straight and sat 81-83. Curveball has 11/5 shape and sat 64-67. Changeup sat 72-73 with some sink. I like Mitchell’s combination of footspeed and bat speed, and he is a good 2022 follow.
7/24/18: 2022 OF/RHP prospect. Hits from the right side, uses open setup in the box. Bat is quick through the zone. Exit velo was 78. Showed middle of the field approach. Also showed ability to LCF gap and pulled side. In the OF exchange was quick and clean, feet worked through the baseball. Arm strength was 83 from OF. On the mound pitches from high ¾ arm slot. Arm action is quick and whippy. Did tend to fall off to 1B line at times. FB sat 78-80 T82. CB was 65 and flashed potential. Interesting 2022 prospect to follow as his tool set continues to improve.
2/24/18: 5-foot-8, 150 pound outfielder hits from a slightly open, balanced setup. Short stride, hands load back. Fluid rhythm. Long, slightly uphill path to contact. Average bat speed. Lacks extension. High exit velocity of 67mph. Defensively, plays with flat footwork into a long exchange. Loose, long arm swing. Throws topped 78mph from the outfield. On the mound, sat 77-78 with the fastball. Straight, above average command. Slightly long arm swing into a high 3/4 slot. Drop and drive delivery. Lands slightly open. Lacks front leg extension. Loopy, gradual 11/5 shape in his breaking ball. Change-up has a near fastball arm speed with some fade.
