2/26/17: The 5-foot-10, 165 pound utility player ran a 7.22 60yd dash. Hits from an open setup and fluid rhythm. Pivots on the front foot, creates good separation. Bat path is long, slightly uphill. Finds the barrel. Top exit velocity of 83. In the outfield, plays through the ball with a long, loose arm action. Fluid feet and clean exchange. Throws topped at 82. On the mound, Hoppel sat 80-81 with the fastball that has slight run. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape, inconsistent at times. Sat 65-67 with gradual downhill break. Delivery has some rhythm, separating into a long arm action. Lands squared, slightly uphill shoulders. Finishes athletically.
3/14/15: As an 8th grader, Michael features a quick arm at high ¾ arm slot with an athletic finish. His best fastball was at 77mph. Michael has a drop drive and long arm action with a tendency to rush through his load. At the plate, he has an average bat speed and a level swing. Exit velo was 77mph. He has a short stride and loads back. Michael will need to get more out of backside as he matures. Defensively, he has above average arm strength and made accurate throws. He has a tendency to play on his heels. His glove and footwork will need to improve to play the field as he matures. Bat and arm strength are good for his age. Michael ran a 7.25 60yd dash as well.
