2/16/2019: Gene Kolarik, RHP/1B, Crown Point HS, 2020, 6 foot 7, 230 pounds, throws from a high slot and a long arm action. Fastball was 85-89 with down angle and some ASR at times with a little effort. Curveball was 11/5 shape with big down action and sat 70-72. Changeup showed good down action and sat 76-78. This big bodied RHP continues to get better, and it will be interesting to see him on the circuit this summer.
2/28/18: 6-foot-7, 225 pound right-handed pitcher ran his fastball up to 88, sitting 83-87. Big bodied, physical presence on the mound. Long, quick arm action. Timing needs to continue improving with separation and release point. Breaking ball featured 11/5 shape with gradual break, some flashing late depth. Change-up showed sink at times with fastball arm speed. Kolarik stays in line with stride leg after a slight inward turn in the load. Creates some rhythm and tempo down the mound. High follow in 2020 class.
6/13/17: No. 9 ranked 6-foot-6, 215 pound right-hander has a projectable frame and delivery on the mound. Pitches from a high action, creates down angle on all pitches. Loose on the backside, firm front side. Lower half is stiff during stride. Delivery is raw, but expected to improve as he matures. Big bodied righty sat 79-82 with some sink action on the fastball. Change-up is straight, thrown with stiff wrist. Breaking ball lacks consistent shape, will need refined as he matures. High follow in 2020 class.
