6/12/18: Extremely athletic 2019 LHP/ 1B prospect. Hits from the left side, tall open setup. Uses leg lift as trigger. Showed good balance with transfer of weight throughout swing. Uses lower half well. Showed above average bat speed with the ability to use both gaps. Bat path is long through the zone with a high finish. On the mound showed nice potential, pitches from ¾ arm slot. Works quick with good tempo to the plate. Arm stroke is short loose and quick. Stays in line during delivery and repeats well. Showed ability to locate FB for strikes in the bottom half of the zone. FB sat 81-82 T83. Mixed in sharp late 2/8 shape CB for strikes and swing and misses.
4/10/18 Spring Scout Blog: 6-foot-1, 175 pound southpaw possesses a raw, twitchy delivery. Quick hand, creates late movement on his two-pitch combination. Very athletic kid. After jumping onto the scene this winter at our Pre-Season All State event, Aaron became an instant follow in the 2019 class. In his start Tuesday, he struggled to find the zone early in the game. With temperatures below 40 degrees at the first pitch, he managed to sit 84-85 in the first. Dropped down to 81-82 with an occasional 83, 84 once he settled into the zone. Breaking ball has late break at 71-72, often missing down. Potential plus out pitch has he improves his feel for it. Delivery has plenty of effort, torque. Over rotates at times. Timing needs cleaned up. When he settled in, fastball showed late life. Finished his day with 5 strikeouts, 7 walks, and 5 runs through 5 complete innings. Command and velocity should improve as season progresses.
2/18/18: 6-foot-1, 175 pound southpaw is a very twitchy, athletic arm. Features a 3/4 slot with a quick hand. Fastball sat 85-86 with late run and some sink. Breaking ball is already a plus out pitch, showing late depth in a 1/7 shape. Change-up needs developed, but did flash some late fade and arm side sinks times. Raw, young delivery that can see more velocity very soon if he gets into his lower half.
Chao ran a 6.84 60 yard dash and hit 87 across the infield. Sure hands with a clean, long transfer. Offensively, big hand load with a leg kick into long stride. Lot of movement, but creates some bat speed. Will need to simplify as he matures to get on time.
