A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.

Likely not a top-of-the-list prospect for the pro scouts in attendance, Harper caught my eye as an ideal prospect for any 4-year college program. Most sidearmers don’t fill up the zone with four pitches. Or have something that moves in every direction to the plate. Harper does. His 88-89 mph heater has deceptive life. It’s firm and lively. It darts opposite to what a typical sidewinder manufactures...it rides instead of dives. Pair this with a whiffle ball-like curve ball at 72-73 mph, a dirty breaker with slider action at 78-79 that he calls a cutter and good feel for a sinking changeup to his armside at 79-81, and you have the makings of a successful backend arm at any collegiate level.
6/18/19
Positional Profile: RHP/OF Loose levers, tough matchup on the mound. Body: 6-foot-2, 170-pounds. Wiry build with room for added strength, athletic. Delivery: Easy, tall and fall delivery, uses momentum throughout, short stride with toe striking closed, in-line to home, pop up at finish with leg swing to first, rhythm throughout. Arm Action: RH. Arm plays long with full swing, loose throughout, arm whips quickly through a low 3/4 slot. FB: T87, 84-86 mph. Late run with occasional sink when down, live through the zone. CB: 71-73 mph. 10/4 sweeping action, near fastball arm speed. CH: 74-78 mph. Aggressive arm speed, sinking action at the bottom of the zone, feel for pitch.
2.18.19 - 6-foot-1, 170-pound, well-proportioned, right-handed hitting outfielder and pitcher. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, closed shoulders, linear direction, open landing, athletic recoil finish. Long, live loose arm action from a ¾ slot; arm action projects. Fastball showed life, late run, thrown for strikes, 84-87 touching 88 mph. Curveball had 10/4 shape, late action, 70-73 mph. Changeup showed sink with arm side run, command in lower third, 75-77 mph. Offensively, balanced setup, slightly open, long stride, engaged lower half. Showed consistent bat speed, short uphill path, gap-gap approach, fluid rhythm throughout. Exit velocity of 90 mph off the tee. Defensively, long loose arm action, high ¾ slot, accuracy and carry on throws. Clean exchange while playing aggressively through the ball. Threw 88 mph from the outfield. Ran the 60 in 6.92.
2.19.18 - 6-foot, 160-pound, athletically-built, two-way prospect. On the mound, right handed pitcher, drop and drive delivery, on-line direction, lands square, athletic finish, some rhythm throughout. Long, loose arm action, quick arm speed, low ¾ arm slot, regular effort. Fastball, slight run, sat 80-82 mph. Slider, 1/7 slurve shape, ranged 65-69 mph. Changeup, maintains fastball arm speed, occasionally gets on side of ball, straight movement, ranged 69-73 mph. At the plate, right-handed hitter, balanced, open setup, knee-knock stride. Level, compact bat path, line-drive approach, 85 mph exit velocity off tee. Defensively, athletic footwork, clean exchange, long, loose arm action, ¾ slot, threw 82 mph from the outfield. Ran a 7.31 laser timed 60.
