Committed to the Universiity of Illinois. ... Roper finished his decorated high school career in impressive fashion. As the catalyst behind Harrisburg�s 40-1 season, the left-handed hitter finished with a .513 batting average, 17 doubles, 10 home runs, three triples, 41 RBI, 20 stolen bases and 59 runs. On the mound, Roper was equally as dominant. He posted a 12-0 record with a 0.84 ERA. In 67 innings, he struck out 91 and walked 28. In the postseason alone, he won four games. Roper was drafted in the 31st round by the Braves. Signed at the University of Illinois. ... The left-handed hitting Roper is blessed with one of the purest swings in the state. So pure, in fact, that most opponents weren't interested in seeing it. Roper was walked an astounding 45 times as a junior, and finished with 32 runs, 3 doubles, 2 HRs, 27 RBI and 10 SBs. He batted .430 with an OBP of .637. On the mound, he posted a 6-2 record. As a sophomore, he delivered 13 doubles, 6 HRs and a .478 batting average, while posting a 7-2 record. Roper is also extremely smooth in the field and has a top-level arm.
