Notes
Comments
5.7.15 6-foot-2, 260-pound left-handed pitcher, extra-large frame, wide shoulders, strong lower half. Lacks polish mechanically, but works to his advantage. Makes for an uncomfortable at-bat with his deception. Long arm action, between 3/4 to high-3/4 slot, works across his body with a shorter stride. Hard to pick up out of hand, which presumably was why his 75-76 mph fastball was sneaking up on hitters. Stays tall, works downhill, fastball has steep plane and showed ability to cut and run fastball. Also throws a 67-68 mph curveball with more sweeping action. Only threw one inning, retired the side in order, with a strikeout on a curveball. Although current velocity doesnt indicate it, Velazquez is a highly interesting prospect whose progress should be tracked.
