6.24.16 - Verbally committed to Cal Poly.
5.7.15 - 5-foot-11, 175 pounds, Gurnik has a strong build and above average range at the shortstop position. Has advanced instincts for a sophomore on both sides of the ball. Narrow, comfortable base at the plate, he stands tall with quiet hands near his head. Creates a compact, downward path to the baseball with little wasted movement. Swings the bat with intent. Demonstrated solid bat control, fouling off pitches out of the zone during at bats where he would eventually drive the gap with two strikes. Defensively, Gurnik is under control, read hops well, knew who was running and adjusted accordingly, very alert player. Throws the baseball with a quick, clean delivery, with carry across the infield. Worked around a ball well to his right in the third inning, and made an accurate throw across his body with very little lower half momentum. Gurnik’s speed plays well on the bases. He reacts quickly and has high awareness. Reacted instantly and scored on a pass-ball which hit the brick and bounced directly back to the catcher. Finished the day 3-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs. Intriguing 2017 prospect to follow.
