Standing at a 5-foot-8, 175-pound frame, Gatton showed well in his start Sunday afternoon against the Illinois Braves. The right-handed pitcher worked quickly and effectively, getting on hitters and pulling the count in his favor early. His fastball was sitting 81-83 mph and the curveball was at 74 mph. The fastball was used heavily in the early innings, with sink and tail that had hitters missing the barrel. It wasn’t until the later innings that the curveball became a factor, being able to freeze hitters and get off-timing swings. Mechanically Gatton had a clean fluid motion which was followed by quick and clean arm action.
