Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 150 pounds. The 2 hole hitter for the War Eagles is a great example of how many good bats are in their lineup, and a big reason why they were able to produce 3 huge multi run innings. With Urias, Holcomb, and Bayer, this is as good as any top of the lineup you’ll find. As a hitter, he checks all the boxes both intangibly and mechanically. What stands out immediately is the hand-eye coordination that produces two of the cleanest barrels of the night. But it’s his incredibly efficient swing mechanics and effortlessness that really caught my eye. His forward move is perfectly timed up and the swing is very explosive & compact. The advanced lower half sink makes up for him not having a negative move, and post landing his hips clear with ease to create momentum in the swing as well as room for the path to adjust to any pitch in any location. In today’s age of selling out for power, Holcomb’s pure hitter actions and advanced hitting traits give a refreshing outlook. They also serve as a reminder that no matter how loud a player's tools are, they have to possess a quiet, efficient swing with controlled violence and over a dozen hitting intangibles for those tools to show consistently. Nick also proves to be a reliable defender at multiple infield positions and will be a bat to watch for the rest of 2023. A textbook swing like this just won't stay uncommitted for long.
