USA CNT:Nasty Massey is an electric-armed reliever with filthy stuff. His fastball sits in the 93-97 mph range with plenty of ride. His breaking ball lives in the low-80s with late, tight tilt. As Wake’s closer last spring, Massey struck out 76 in 41.2 innings. A move into the starting rotation next season for the Deacs would further elevate his draft value that currently sits towards the end of Day One.
4/20/23
A transfer from Tulane, Massey has made an immediate impact in the Deacons’ star-studded staff as a bridge reliever. Since his arrival in Winston-Salem he’s made some mechanical adjustments that have helped him with spin efficiency and induced vertical break. As a result, he’s missing dramatically more bats with his heater, but also with his plus slider. Big and physical with projection remaining at 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, Massey worked in the 92-94 range, touching 95 during his one inning against Louisville on Saturday. His heater has exceptional carry, averaging 20” of IVB this season, and rides over bats. He also goes under bats with an 83-86 mph slider that he throws at will for strikes. He struck out two of the three batters he faced and now has 40 strikeouts in 20.1 innings this season for a preposterous 48.2% strikeout rate.
