Cape Cod: Statistically, it would be tough to have a better summer than the one Finley had for Y-D. In 17.1 innings, he allowed two runs (both unearned) with five walks and 20 strikeouts. In allowing 10 hits, he held opponents to a .167 average. A statuesque pitcher at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, Finley features a low-90s fastball that plays up due to its ride and some deception in his delivery, a curveball in the high 70s and low 80s, and a changeup in the mid 80s that is clearly a third pitch in the pecking order. Finley is a good athlete who could contribute as a two-way player with the Bulldogs moving forward—he’s similar in that way to his brother Jackson, a two-way player at Georgia Tech who was drafted in the eighth round this summer—but his future as a prospect is on the mound.
Finley is tall and strong with room to fill out. His 92-95 fastball has late tail and sink, and he commands it to both sides of the plate. His slider is 79-81 with good spin and hard, late diving action. He has a good feel for pitching and repeats his delivery to throw strikes.
6-foot-5, 205-pounds, tall muscular athletic frame, with room to add strength. Highly projectable arm based on size and power fastball potential. UGA commit going as a SS/RHP. Throws from the stretch, generates power from back leg and propels forward to give his FB extra life. Has a short arm slot similar to a middle infielder. FB sits 88-90 T91 with explosion. CB is 74-75 with sharp break and a 11/5 downward action. Change in speeds tend to freeze hitters sitting FB. Didn’t throw CH that often but it sits at 81-82 with fade. High profile guy with tools to make an instant impact.
PBR Showdown
Georgia commit. 6-foot-4, 190-pound right-handed hitting two-way prospect, a true do-it-all type prospect, has a definitive future as a shortstop and offensive minded top of the order bat, an intriguing prospect on the mound as well. Highly athletic, long, easy strides when running the bases, same type of agility defensively, allowing for him to have great range up the middle, given his long frame is able to get to virtually every ball hit his way. Advanced arm strength, more than enough to stick at shortstop at the next level. Offensively, hits from balance setup with his weight displaced on his back-side, short hand cock on load. Elite bat speed and athletic hands, has power to all fields and routinely makes hard contact with high level barrel control. On the mound, arm works short and quick to a ¾ slot, hides the ball well on the back-side not allowing the batter to catch a glimpse until it is out of his hand. Fastball sat in the mid-to-upper 80s with run, topping out at 89. Swing and miss type curveball, 12/6 shape, 74-76. High follow prospect for the 2022 class.
