5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop and third base, athletic build with strength throughout frame, projectable. Ran a 7.35 laser-timed 60. Offensively, balanced setup, short leg lift stride, hands load back smoothly, does a good job of incorporating lower half, stays balanced throughout. Takes a line drive approach, barrel whips through the zone on a level plane, gains extension through the zone, 87 exit velocity off a tee. Went 1-for-2 with a single in game play. Defensively, long arm action, stab on the back-side, arm works from multiple slots, kept throws around the target with some carry, 79 across the infield. Fields position with swagger, slides to the ball, fluid footwork, funnels ball to midsection, clean and quick on exchanges, good body control to both sides.
An athletic shortstop that can run, with soft hands and plenty of arm. Burney has a chance to stay at shortstop and excel at the next level. Offensively he shows solid bat-speed and strength when he stays over his legs. Interesting looking uncommitted SS Prospect with plenty of unteachables.
