2022 MLB Draft: Seen as a potential top 10 round prospect in the preseason, Simpson has shot his way up draft boards thanks to advanced bat to ball skills (.418 batting average), a high on-base (.498) and low strikeout rate (6.4%). He's also a top of the scale runner. Off to a hot start batting .468 through 79 plate appearances the speedy shortstop went 6-for-12 with a pair of walks during the series. Also, he has already stolen 10 bags in 13 attempts this season. With elite speed he puts it to use with a contact and run approach at the plate. On the downside there is little extra base pop in his ultra quiet, almost defensive hitting setup, but he knows his game and executes it really well. He's a low ball hitter who looks to stay inside the baseball and use the opposite field, but can also turn around inner half offerings to his pull side in the right situation. Defensively, he showed good range and soft hands. His stiff arm action limits his arm strength and accuracy, but with a quick release he's able to complete most plays at the college level. He will likely move to center field in pro ball to take advantage of his exceptional speed.
