Uncommitted. 6-foot, 165 pounds. There’s so much to like about this consistent bat with a rangy frame. The first thing that stood out at the plate was his body control, as you don’t typically see players with his lean build hit with the type of balance he does as a HS JR. Then you notice the well timed hip pace, spending 25% of his time on the negative move, and 75% of his time in the forward move. This promotes optimal lower half momentum from aggressive ground gained in stride and allows Coile to catch the ball in front of the plate consistently, creating the power himself instead of the pitch creating the EV. Since his base is wider, he creates more of the lower half momentum from the hip pace than ground gained, but they make for a combo that produces more rubberband effect at foot strike. His long arms also allow him to cover the entire zone more easily, and even barrel pitches outside the zone. The bat speed and hand-eye stand out, and he was timed up with nearly every pitch on this day. He put good swing after good swing on pitches. With 10 more lbs to the frame, this bat can really take off in the raw power category. I also see the run tool continuing to climb.
