2021 MLB Draft: Physical at 6-foot-6, 250 pounds, Hurter is a low-3/4 lefty who missed all of the 2020 season due to Tommy John surgery. In 2021, he posted a 3.90 ERA with 83 strikeouts in 84.1 innings. His number of hit batters (17) and wild pitches (11) were a little eye opening, but overall he made a strong recovery this spring. At his best, he sits in the low 90s with a sinking fastball and shows feel for two quality offspeed pitches in his sharp 79-82 slider with very good, tight tilt at times (up to 2730 rpm) and an 83-84 changeup with fade and sink. He profiles as a back-end starter at the major league level.
Started Sunday's rubber match. In the first inning his fastball sat 91-93 mph with very good arm-side life, generating much swing/miss. By the third he worked at 87-89 mph with his fastball while mixing a changeup and mostly casting a 79-80 mph slider. (Seifert)
8/20/18: Tall, strong bodied lefty at six-foot-six, 240 pounds. Challenged hitters while pitching to good locations with an 87-89 mph fastball. Worked both sides of the plate. Kept the two-seamer away from hitters with the four-seamer mostly inside. Pitched off his fastball while mixing in a short 1/7 rotation breaking ball at 76-78 mph and a fading 77-78 mph changeup thrown with fair armspeed. (Seifert)
