5-foot-9, 165-pound athletic physical build. Smooth confident in the box, Pope had an exit velocity of 88 mph. (59.52 mph bat speed average). (20.88 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance with a tight compact load, then used a controlled short stride. Had a short simple swing plane, quick efficient bat speed and level good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with loud contact. Line drive approach. Confident in the infield, his best throw was recorded at 78 mph; had rhythmic consistent footwork, soft sure hands, and a clean natural exchange. From the outfield, he showed the ability to throw at velocities up to 79 mph; had choppy rhythmic footwork, a quick natural exchange, and sure hands. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Behind the plate, he recorded a position velocity of 76 mph during throw downs; has twitchy sure hands, smooth consistent feet, and a quick clean transfer. produced pop times of 2.05-2.18. Average flexibility and calm staggered setup. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a long loose arm action with a high ¾ slot.
5/18/19- One of the few 2023s in attendance, he stands at 5-foot-7, 145 pounds. Offensively, he starts slightly open and works with a leg kick trigger. He is aggressive through the zone, can get a little rotational, but will improve with strength. Has a feel for the barrel, level, line drive approach. Clears his backside well and has quick hands for his class and overall the swing projects well with maturity. Defensively, he is a sound receive for his age and the throws were consistently accurate. Overall, the tools work in-game and should continue to play well as he matures with strength.
