3/24/15 - Thick blocky strong catchers body. Solid receiver with good catch and throw skills. Threw with an avg ML arm from a short 3/4 slot. Needs to be a little more polished with his footwork. Arm was a bit erratic but the ball jumps out of his hand with a quick release. Showed mobility blocking many balls in the dirt. High energy kid. Had a tough day at the plate against Logan Allen but kept grinding away on defense.
3/13/19: An All-Conference USA performer a year ago, Pastrana led the Thundering Herd in batting average (.355), home runs (13) and RBIs (50). In the early going this season, he hasn't been able to replicate last year's success, striking out a troubling 34 times in 77 plate appearances. He struggled with pitch recognition over the weekend against Florida International, going 1-for-13 with nine strikeouts in the process. In BP, he shows a line drive swing from the right side that flashes above average raw power resulting from his wiry strength. Well-proportioned at 6-foot-1, 200-pounds, he's an athletic backstop who moves his feet well behind the dish. He's a flexible receiver too, contorting his body to set a low target for his pitchers. He showed above average arm strength in I/O, throwing to each base on a line, with easy carry and accuracy. (Granger)
