04/04/17 - Rosenberg was 2-5 on the day with doubles from both the right and left hand sides. He is tall, lean upper half with a strong lower half with room to fill out. Offensively, he is very similar from both sides. He is balanced with good use from the lower half, feel for the barrel and above average power especially from the left side. He was extremely impressive behind the plate as well. With a flexible lower half, he consistently got into a quality position to receive with soft hands and strong wrists. He also showed good footwork with a clean quick transfer and an above average arm, showing it off with a 1.82 pop on an in game caught stealing.
05/28/16- Duke commit. Rothenberg is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound catcher that showed an impressive tool-set this weekend. The switch-hitter showed a balanced set up at the plate left-handed which led to a short, quick swing with a clean path through the zone and present gap-to-gap power. Strong lower half and physical frame make him very projectable offensively. Defensively, Rothenberg showed noticeable energy and presence behind the plate. He has a flexible, low set-up which puts him in position to use his soft hands well.
3/2/16- 6-foot-3, 200-pound Duke recruit with a strong, athletic build. Received well from behind the plate and showed the ability to block balls in the dirt. Moves well and showed a quick release with good footwork with on line and accurate throws down to 2B. Hustles. At the plate showed balance and good hand-eye and he was able to square the ball up and drive the ball into the gaps from the left hand side. Ball jumps off the bat.
2/20/16 - 6-foot-3, 200 pound catcher with a thick blocky strong durable catchers body. Solid receiver with some arm strength but didn’t show it tonight. Defense starting to get a bit flashy. Didn’t show the grinder type hustle I’ve seen in the past. Will need to step that part of his game up to be a consistent leader for that position. Has strength in the bat with some present power from both sides of the plate. Could become a 2017 draft.
9/12/15 - Duke commit. Thick blocky strong body. Average ML arm strength with an average type release. Good strength in the bat. Solid average ML raw power from both sides of the plate. Very physical young kid with a durable catchers body.
6/14/15- Duke commit. 6-foot-3 200 pounds with an athletic, strong, and projectable body. 1.84 pop time. From the left side of the plate he has a nice separation for his load and has a short, quick swing. Slightly cuts off his swing but hits consistent line drives. He’s better from the right side of the plate, he gets good extension and the ball jumps off his bat.
3/23/15 - Duke signee. 6-foot-3, 200 pound catcher who continues to impress. Big strong offensive catcher with power in the bat and plenty of defensive skills to stay back there and become a solid avg defender. The switch-hitting receiver will definitely be on scouts’ radar in a couple of years.
2/6/15 - Duke commit. Big strong blocky athletic body. High energy kid with soft hands. Good receiver. Needs some work on blocking which is easily corrected. Good transition on throws to 2B. Quick hands and feet with enough arm. Below 2.0 to 2B. Strength and quickness in bat. Good bat speed with a good path. Good hand eye. Makes a lot of hard contact. Only saw him swing from the left side.
2020 DRAFT: At 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, Rothenberg physically resembles big-bodied former ML catcher Erik Kratz. Offensively, he takes a healthy swing from both sides of the plate, looking to drop, drive and lift the ball -- especially from the left side. He has above-average raw power from both sides with more bat strength than bat speed. He ended the shortened spring with an outstanding slash line of .349/.551/.605 with two HR and 17 RBI. Rothenberg blocks well, smothering the ball with his extra large frame. He also showed near plus raw arm strength with a longer release to his throws. Despite his size and a possible move to first base awaiting him at the pro ranks, switch-hitting catchers with power and arm strength from the ACC tend to be taken quickly in the amateur draft. And, Rothenberg looks to be no different.
3/1/20: Reminds me of big-bodied former ML catcher Erik Kratz. Rothenberg blocked well on this latest look, smothering the ball with his extra large 6-foot-4, 230-pound frame. He also showed near plus raw arm strength with a longer release to his throws. Offensively, he takes a healthy swing from both sides of the plate, looking to drop, drive and lift the ball -- especially from the left side. He has above-average raw power from both sides with more bat strength than bat speed. Rothenberg was 3-for-11 with a pair of doubles and three walks during the tournament. Despite his size and a possible move to first base awaiting him at the pro ranks, switch-hitting catchers with power and arm strength from the ACC tend to be taken quickly in the amateur draft. Rothenberg looks to be no different as a likely mid-Day Two candidate at this point in the spring season. (Seifert)
8/20/19: Struggled at the plate, slashing .200/.241/.218 over 58 plate appearances but shows at least average raw power from both sides of the plate and a plus arm behind it, making him a potential Day Two name to follow. (Faleris)
