Cape Cod: Slender-framed at 6-foot-5, 195 pounds, the lefty is long and loose with a quick arm. His lower-spin fastball peaked at 94, sitting mostly 91-93 with good sink. He also showed feel for three secondary offerings in his low 70s curve, 82-84 mph slider and 78-81 changeup. The best of the trio was his average changeup. It was low-spin with good life and has the potential to become plus in the future. His next best secondary is his present fringe-quality curve. Furtado flashed good depth on the pitch and it has the potential to become at least average down the road. The southpaw showed both sides of his development curve during his five innings of work against Falmouth on July 22. At one point, Furtado struck out six in a row then lost feel for the corners, finding the middle of the plate too often as he was tagged for the loss, allowing five hits and four runs. His ability to self-correct from pitch to pitch will be the difference between his selection on Day One or Day Two next summer. He finished the Cape season with a 5.05 ERA in 21.1 innings.

Cape Cod- Failed to get out of a six-run first inning in our look, but flashed promising stuff. An athletic 6-foot-4, 190-pound lefty who works downhill from a high three-quarters slot, Furtado has a clean, easy arm action that produced 91-95 mph heat on this look, with spin rates as high as 2464 rpm. Too many of those fastballs were left over the heart of the plate, however, ultimately leading to his undoing. His 74-76 mph curveball flashed average with plenty of depth and a shape that sat between 12-to-6 and 1-to-7. The pitch has some swing-and-miss potential and adequate bite with spin rates in the 2400s, but it's not a hammer at this stage. Furtado struggled with his feel for an 80-81 changeup, which appears to be a work in progress at present. Better days are ahead for this talented lefty, who is clearly a prospect of interest despite his 7.64 ERA in 17.2 innings this summer.
