Power / Speed Score
A simple calculation that divides the athlete’s Exit Velocity Max by the athlete’s 60 Yard Dash time for the given event year. For example, 98 MPH / 7.00s = 14.00.
A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Curveball
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Curveball
Sweep+
A sweeping breaking ball moves horizontally with velocity through the zone. Sweep+ of 100 is MLB average.
Nate Barrett: LHP/1B, (2024) Staples, CT. 5-foot-11, 154-pound athletic slim frame. Capable and raw during batting practice, Barrett had a max exit velocity of 82 mph. (59.05 mph bat speed average). (17.57 mph hand speed average). Setup included a balanced athletic stance and a small closed stride. Bat speed was average and developing, displayed a loose ,long swing plane and level finish. He barreled up some balls with loud contact. Base hit approach. Projectable while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 65 mph; has developing and choppy footwork, developing soft hands, and a clean exchange. 5-foot-146-pound, average athletic frame, squared off shoulders, with room for added weight gains, good strength for a 2024. A left-handed hitter, worked off the mound as well. At the plate, even feet, slightly wider than shoulder width, loose and relaxed hands, set lower than shoulder height. For timing uses a higher leg kick, gains ground, on foot strike is back. The swing is level through the zone, more of a pull approach, finishes the swing at shoulder height. Took a solid round of batting practice, had an exit velocity at 82 mph, ran a 4.46 from home to 1st, moves well. Defensively, soft hands out front on the catch, gets off the bag quickly, gaining ground on the double play starts. The arm was clocked at 72 mph. Off the mound, working from the set position, small lift, with coil to it. The arm action is shorter on the backside, working from a lower 3/4 slot. Lead arm can track longer to plate, could finish more, lead arm blocks the finish at times. The stride is inline, gets down the mound, building momentum. The fastball was clocked at 73 mph, with some arm side run to it. The breaking ball was more a slider at 65 mph. Time will tell which was he goes, competed well.
