6/20/17

6-foot-5, 170 pounds, tons of projection, athletic and coordinated. Petersen’s frame has plenty of room to fill out, lean with potential to fill out upper and lower halves. Profiles much better at third base or a corner outfield slot considering his height. Average to slightly below average runner when it comes to straight line speed, should drop with strength and reps. That being said, in short bursts they play up, as his long strides allow him to get into position to field ground balls quickly. Good transfers, solid footwork, arm clocked at 72 mph, needs more strength, has more in the tank. The arm action is clean, no hesitation or pauses, works out of a natural ¾ slot, with good feel across the diamond. At the plate, his feet are spread outside shoulder width and he employs a leg kick, wrists rock into place from up by his neck. Makes good contact. The swing is smooth, with a one handed finish, tee exit clocked at 77 mph.  Adding strength to his frame will be critical to his development as a player by helping add some extra velocity to his throws as well as tap into the power made available to someone who is 6-foot-5. Big time prospect, get out and see him.
