5-foot-10, 155-pound, thin, athletic frame, arms are long with plenty of room for future development. A slick fielding middle infielder, who gets off the blocks to both sides very quickly and gets to the baseball off his first step quickness. The hands are soft and works from the ground up, transfer is quick with no wasted movement and he gets himself into an athletic position before releasing the baseball. The backhand play is made with ease, stays down and through it. The footwork and quickness on the slow roller is advanced. The arm was clocked at 82 mph from short, has whip and hand speed to it and has quick arm. At the plate, he hits from the right-side, the setup is slightly open to even, hands are loose and is in a good balanced position when making contact. For timing uses a controlled leg kick and the backside is strong and involved in the swing. The swing is level and shows a gap to gap approach. The tee exit velocity was 80 mph, and was 4.5 down the line. Off the mound, shows three pitches, fastball was 77-81 mph with life to arm side. The breaking ball 68-69 slurvey hammer and has an above average changeup at 70 mph, with acton and fade to the armside. The delivery is simple, needs to get lower half involved more, works quick, good tempo and times to the plate were 1.03-1.15. Two way guy at the current moment, projects for me as more of positional middle infielder and is going to be a good one.
New York Games (June 27-29)
Pacheco is a lean 155 pounds and is 5-foot-10; ran a 7.19 60 (.20 seconds faster than Jan. 2016) Offensively- Upright, open stance, hands by ears. Leg kick, little separation of hands with good stride, bat is at good angle during bat path and backside activates well. Finishes leaning back a bit with high, one-handed finish will continue to improve swing as Pacheco gets stronger. Exit velocity: 80 MPH. Defensively- Good feet and hips, very soft glove and smooth glove/hand transfer. Solid charging the ball and fielding backhand plays. Infield arm velocity: 82 MPH (up 5 MPH from Jan. 2016). Pitching- Small drop step to first base side, quick chest high leg kick, lands closed on stiff front side. Finishes on balance, FB sat 77-79 MPH with his CB checking in at 65-66; CH at 70 MPH. Prospective dual player at the next level.
NY State Open (January 31, 2016)
J ustin is an athletic 5-foot-10 155 pound 2B/RHP with fast twitch actions. He ran a 7.39 60 with a 4.40 home-to-1B. Offensively- Justin sets up in an open and narrow stance with a back and down take back with his hands. Elevated leg kick that gains a short distance forward. Aggressive and active hands which lead the swing. Late back foot/hip rotation with back leg kicking free. Attacks the ball with a vengeance. Line drive contact with some gap potential if all his energy can get channeled in the right direction. Exit velocity was 80 MPH. Defensively- Justin displays active feet with good angles to the ball. Covers ground laterally with short choppy steps and can make plays on the run. 2B/3B type mold with his arm strength checking in at 77 MPH out of a short arm path. Pitching- On the mound Justin sets up to his arm side with a short side step up to a mid chest balance point. Arm action is short/infield like with a quick build up of arm speed through a 3/4 slot. Ball jumps out at 77-78 MPH, touching 79 MPH. Good feel for secondary offerings with his curveball at bit on the slow side at 60-62 MPH but features sharp 12-to-6 break. Change up feature arm side run with some sink at 66-68 MPH. Nice tool set as a dual player, projects well on both ends.
