A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
The reactive strength index measurement of an athlete's explosiveness by comparing their jump height to the ground contact time in between their jumps. On a scale of 0-5.

Carson Swaim: RHP/OF, (2024) Fairfield Warde, CT. 5-foot-9, 182-pound mature strong build. Above average during batting practice, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 91 mph. (75.3 mph bat speed average). (21.2 mph hand speed average). Begins in an athletic balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a controlled toe tap stride. Had explosive bat speed, short simple swing plane and good extension on his level finish. He barreled up multiple balls with tons of loud contact. Pull side aggressive approach. Above average in the outfield, he showed a plus arm and had life on his throws with a position velocity of 90 mph;has a twitchy exchange, athletic quick feet, and soft hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot and a loose arm action. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.28. Projectable raw on the mound, had a short loose arm action and lightning arm speed. Stretch only tall-and-fall type pitcher who uses easy effort. Balance point is tall with an in line shoulders during delivery. Lands square with an athletic balanced finish. Threw his fastball 85-86 mph; had arm side control and sinking late action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2351; Avg 2266). Shows fading swing and miss action and arm side command on his changeup (79-80). Threw his 2/8 slider (72-74) with swing and miss tight action and down in the zone command. (Max spin 2605; Avg 2467). Took a big a jump off the mound, spin rates advanced.

5-foot-6, 140-pounds, smaller, solid, stronger athletic frame for his age and class. The lower half shows strength and power. A right-handed pitcher, also worked out as a position player. Off the mound, delivery is repeatable, compact, building momentum down the mound. The hands start higher, work down with rocker step, move backup with athletic leg kick. Loaded on the backside, direction is inline, gets out front on release and finish. The arm action is clean on the backside, works from a 3/4 slot. The fastball was clocked at 76 mph and spin rate over 1900, fastball has arm side bore. The breaking ball spin rate is close to 2300, tight spin/rotation, clocked at 64 mph, look for the velocity to jump at some point. Threw a ton a strikes. Offensively, hitting from the right side, even feet, loaded hands at the shoulders. The lower half is under control, swing is level through the zone, with a line drive approach. The exit velocity 84 mph, and ran a 4.64 dig on a home to 1st. Defensively, threw 75 mph, quick shuffle, into release. All throws on a line with carry. Love the feel off the mound, only freshman, good follow.
