6-foot-2, 170-pound, long, wiry strong athletic frame. The shoulders and back are wide, built like a swimmer, has room for added weight and muscle. A left-handed pitcher who works from a higher slot and pitches down hill. The leg raise is controlled, gets to a good high gather, weight stays over the backside, frontside is strong and lands inline with target. The lead leg gets a bit stiff on release. The arm action has a down to up arm swing, with a small jab/pause on the backside. The fastball was located down in the zone, very good to the glove side, clocked at 74-78 mph, with more 78’s in there. The breaking pitch acts like a small slider, clocked at 64-65 mph, located down and in to right-handed hitters. The changeup clocked at 63-69 mph, has downward break and fade to it, thrown for strikes, compliments the fastball well. Volpe has deception and works from a tough angle, looks to be difficult to square up. Still new to the pitching craft, plenty of innings and workload left in the arm.
