9/23/18 - Rising Stars Showcase - Six-foot-1, 185-pounds, large frame, strength throughout frame particularly in the lower half, squared shoulders with wiry strength down through into the wrists. At the plate Doty stars with an upright, balanced setup before a backside load and a slight leg lift initiate the swing. Shows present bat speed and control of the barrel. Has present strength at the plate that resulted in line drives to all fields during batting practice. Had one of the loudest rounds of batting practice on the day. Ball jumps off his bat. Defensively Doty shows excellent glovework with plenty of arm strength from the left side of the infield. Shows range to both sides with fair footwork. Bends at the hips while maintaining a sturdy base when fielding. Doty oozes projection on the mound where he flashes a three-pitch mix with each offering being average at worst presently. Shows a quick-to-fast arm from a compact slot in the back through to a ¾ slot at release. Gains ground down the mound with a high, athletic left leg movement down through the mound where he gains lots of ground. Ball jumps out of his hands. Curveball (slurvy) is arguably best present pitch with its late, sharp, sinking action that he keeps at or below the knees. Fastball shows run to the arm side with life as it enters the hitting zone. Changeup is still developing in terms of feel and consistency, but when thrown with conviction is flashes some arm side run with sinking action in on righties.
