2020 DRAFT: Five-foot-11, 180-pound, matured bodied righty with an average fastball and plus changeup as his best pitch. Denholm boasts present stuff over future projection. He sets up with his plant foot on the extreme first base side and his toe barely touching the rubber, giving him the greatest angle for his next most effective pitch; an 89-93 mph heavy sinker. He's able to spot this pitch with precision. The remainder of his repertoire includes a big breaking 74-77 mph curveball that has good shape with both depth and sweep. He has also performed at a high level both his sophomore and junior seasons (11-5, 1.91 ERA, .170 OPPBA). Denholm reminds of former Anteater teammate Andre Pallante in terms of size, stuff, mound setup and college career performance. Pallante was drafted by St. Louis in the 4th round last June, and with outstanding analytics Denholm will likely be selected in that same range this summer.
6/30/19: Six-foot, matured bodied righty with present stuff and limited projection. Sets up with his plant foot on the extreme first base side and his toe barely touching the rubber, giving him the greatest angle for his most effective pitch; a 89-93 mph heavy sinker. He spotted this pitch with precision to the first five batters he faced, striking out three of them. The sixth batter hit a fly ball to right field which was misplayed into a triple. Denholm’s stuff headed south after this incident as he lost much of the sink and command of his fastball. He finished the day throwing 52 pitches over 2.2 IP, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks. The remainder of his repertoire included a big breaking 74-77 mph curveball and 76 mph fringy changeup. The curveball had good shape with both depth and sweep. Denholm reminds me of former Anteater teammate Andre Pallante in terms of size, stuff, mound setup and college career performance. Pallante was drafted by St. Louis in the 4th round this past June. 8/20/18: Six-foot strike thrower with a quick arm. Mixed a sinking 89-92 mph fastball (1900-2000 spin rate) with an above average 74-75 mph changeup (1400-1500) and a below average 72-75 mph curveball (2100). Cape Cod All-Star who finished with a perfect 0.00 ERA in 21.2 IP. Allowed 14 hits with 29 strikeouts. (Seifert)
