at De La Salle in NCS D1 playoff - Pacific commit; led off game with homer off slider from one of top LHP in California (Kyle Harrison), was first of three quality at-bats where he made hard contact, homer was to RF and single was slashed inside the bag by the 3rd baseman, nearly reached on a ball hit very hard that ate up the 1st baseman, even strikeout in last at-bat he was on good fastballs, played pop ups well into the OF, did kick a double play ball but not staying below a hard hit one-hopper to his left, calm and cool in the box and appears to be a confident player, looks poised to be an early contributor at the D1 level as a freshman
v Washington - Pacific Commit. Medium frame with wide shoulders and high waist showing athletic build. 1-4 with 2 hard hit balls including a 3B. At the plate keeps hands wide away from the back shoulder with strong posture as he stands tall and slightly open with a wide base. Hands pull back and down as he rocks into back hip with foot lift landing in strong hitting position. Swing works on upwards arc with strong hands showing quick wrists through contact; keeps hands tight to the body with flashes of barrel control. Triple down the RF line turning on inside pitch and showing off his speed standing up into 3rd base (4.53T). Squared up another ball right at the RF in the RF gap. Defensively played on the move with rhythm and above-average athleticism showing strong body control and footwork matching it with a solid average, compact arm. Strong overall profile with bat-speed and defensive actions to stick in the middle of the field at the next level.
University of Pacific signee & #104 in CA 2019 class, is a high energy guy that you can tell loves the game. He did not have his best day, but there is a lot to like about Gavello. Defensively, he is smooth with great hands, and his arm is strong and accurate. He uses his feet well and showed that on a tough slow roller to his right where he threw out the runner with plenty of time. His turns were smooth during pre game and he is confident in all his movements. At the plate he has an open stance and his timing and load are both good. He stays back and has a soft landing which allows him to recognize pitches. He was overly aggressive this game and had some tough at bats, but the bat speed and quick hands are there so you know that it was just a down game for him.
at Serra HS - Pacific signee; compactly built player at 5-foot-9 175-pounds, gains favorable reviews due to his competitive nature, well-rounded skill set, and energetic style of play. In his first at-bat he lashed a double to left-center on a hanging breaking ball and dove headlong into 2nd base, popping up with the energy that feeds his team. At his best he's got that oppo drive ability and also some short game skills as well. Defensively he's got bouncy actions and plays athletically, with good lateral agility and first step quickness. He's the kind of Northern California player who goes to college and emerges a legit prospect in a few years.
