7-17-18 - SoCal Underclass Trials II - 6-foot, 195-pounds, large frame with strong, defined lower half, broad shoulders and some upper body strength. Starts from an open stance with bent knees. Uses an extended lunge and aggressively attacks ball with a middle, line drive approach that shows some present power. Barrel is a bit inconsistent, but when timing is on Shinkle shows the ability to drive balls to gaps with pull-side power. Behind the plate he is quiet in his crouch and explodes out of it to drive the ball to second base. Receives the ball out front with soft hands. Arm has some present strength with online throws to the bag. His one miss was to the first base side of the bag. Shows athleticism when blocking-and-recovering. Pops out of crouch and recovers in a ready-to-throw position. On the bunt he circled the ball well and in position.
