Uncommitted as of this viewing vs Jesuit HS; lean athletic body type, played 3rd base in this one and played a role in the win with a sac-fly that drove in a big run in the 6th inning. He's a lean-bodied, average sized athlete with good proportionality. Werner is a switch-hitter but faced two RHPs which kept him on the left side. The assignment was a tough one, facing Owen and Susac and Werner did punch out in his first two at-bats, once on change-up and once on a breaking ball, both were down and in. There is some pull approach and the barrel does get ahead of his hands, which will cause him trouble to offspeed stuff down and in. He's got quick hands and some sneaky pop but will have to work to use the whole field to become a better all-around hitter, especially vs good competition as he saw in this one. Defensively he plays with confidence, has light feet and a bounce in his step and showed a strong arm with some carry across the diamond. Down the road he very likely will play up the middle.

PBR N CA Preseason All-State - Medium frame with length in legs, tight waist and width in shoulders. Projectable frame with space to fill out as he matures; shows quick feet from average stride length (7.55 60-yd). Tall stance with balance keeping high hands away from his body and a high back elbow; more crouched during RHH with more posture in LHH stance. Slight knee tuck as hands pull down into back shoulder in both swings. LHH swing was very quick with late lift showing flashes of pop to the pullside; RHH swing showed quickness as well with little more upwards path (83 exit velo). Very smooth infielder funneling ball into middle of his body and showing control of glove; quick arm compactness and ability to throw from angles (80 MPH). 2021 to follow in Spring.
