at Leigh - CSUN Commit. Long, medium, squared frame with tight waist and athletic build showing lean muscle. Great day being on base 6 times while going 4-4 with 3 RBI. Balanced set up at the plate with high hands and flared elbows. Relaxed stance with still head through contact allows him to track pitches and make adjustments. Quick foot lift allows him to stay in back hip as hands work back and down showing small wrap around his head. Back hip fires as hands work in time slotting back arm tight to body; barrel works upwards through the baseball with the ability to tilt it for different locations. Lift occurs out front in contact with strength in wrists and hands. High runner with very quick feet able to get out of the box athletically and full speed quickly (4.00 H-1st, 5.02T); shows ability to use jumps to steal bags as well. Can really go get the ball in CF showing range to both sides with the ability to open the hips and track balls over his head as well. Arm fits in CF with ability to work behind the ball and keep it on a line to cut men; fringe arm strength. Really liked his athleticism and the ability to make adjustments at the plate. Times where he was behind in the count and fooled, but still got barrel on the ball giving him a chance with his speed. HR in bottom of the 8th inning was very clutch and you could see he was looking to be the guy in that situation.
3/14/19 at Santa Cruz - Cal State Northridge Commit. Medium, long, lean frame with some width in shoulder and high waist; athletic build showing strength in upper half and projects well. Slightly open stance with crouch and knees turned towards each other. Even hands away from the body with relaxed, flared elbows bouncing bat to N/S off his shoulder. Rocks into back hip with big knee lift and hang while hands pull down and back keeping hands tight to body. Swing is compact showing ability to stay inside baseball with flashes of hand speed while hitting over stiff front leg. Ripped a 2B down left field line keeping pitch on inner half of plate fair and hit ball hard at SS reaching on error. Quick out of box with quick feet showing short stride (4.58T); reads ball in dirt well advancing on a passed ball that didn’t bounce far from the Catcher. In CF, moved well making pre-pitch adjustments and setting himself up to make plays especially to his arm side and in front. During pre-game did a good job of getting around the ball to create direct lines for throws and lining himself up. Fringy arm with lots of balls cutting in action as they went to their target from a compact 3/4 release. Liked Hamchuk’s overall profile and could see him still having some growth in his game.
8/1/18 - Hamchuk immediately caught our attention after posting a 6.92 time in the 60 yard dash and backed that up with a 94 exit velocity off the tee. At a listed 6-foot, 175-pounds, Hamchuk plays a lot bigger than that with a big, strong body that has muscle throughout and squared shoulders. He is a hyper-athletic player with a high ceiling. At the plate his hands are fast and the ball jumps off the barrel thanks in part to very fast hands and feel for the barrel. Power is easy and projectable from a balanced and rhythmic swing. Shows a middle-right approach with over-the-fence power presently. In the outfield Hamchuk plays through balls and shows explosive throws that he keeps down after gathering. Arm is accurate and clean and he shows excellent body control.
6/24-26/2018 - Lean wiry athletic 6-foot-0 165-pound build on a young player who looks to have the tools, present day skill, and physical projectability to really emerge in the next year, swing happens easily, has easy bat speed, good balance and a solid gap to gap approach, like a lot of young players he can get more from his lower half to allow for slightly more elevation in his swing, defensively he plays outfield athletically with a good release and above average arm with good accuracy. Gut feel says he's going to be a sought after 2019 outfielder.
