2022 MLB Draft: The athletic southpaw repeats a polished delivery with smooth, clean arm action to a high three-quarters slot. With plus pitchability Hansen commands an 88-92 mph fastball to both sides of the plate, while pounding the zone with his calling card; an above average 79-81 slider. It's very effective against both left and right handed hitters. An occasional mid-80s changeup is his third pitch. Hansen finished the 2022 season with a record of 11-3 and a 3.76 ERA. He struck out 120 against just 19 walks in 107.2 IP. He projects to be selected early in Day Two and should move quickly through the lower levels of a player development system.

The 6-foot-2 lefty sliced and diced against the Sooners, allowing just two hits in eight innings of work while striking out 12. The athletic southpaw repeated a polished delivery with smooth, clean arm action to a high three-quarters slot. With plus pitchability Hansen commanded his 87-91 mph fastball to both sides of the plate, while pounding the zone with his calling card, an above average 79-81 slider. An occasional mid-80s changeup was his third pitch. He worked quickly against the Sooners, both between pitches and every inning, facing just four batters over the minimum, throwing 117 pitches. With this latest W, Hansen improved to 5-0 with a 2.51 ERA. He has struck out 52 against just eight walks in 43 IP. He projects to be selected around the same area as Bennett and should move quickly through the lower levels of a player development system.

3/06/22

For much of last season Hansen experienced a ton of success on the mound. But while he was successful, his fastball velocity often hovered in the 86-88 mph range. Compare that to his true freshman fall, where he touched 92-93 mph with the fastball. Hansen, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound, left handed pitcher showed higher velocity Friday night against the Volunteers, consistently 89-91 mph with his fastball the first few innings before dipping more in the 88-89 mph range for the remainder of his start. Hansen, as usual, commanded his fastball, while his calling card from a secondary stuff standpoint was the 81-82 mph slider. He had excellent command of the slider and had success with it against both left and right handed hitters. He also worked in a few mid-80s changeups, but for the most part, it was the fastball-slider show from the elite, precision-oriented lefty. Hansen finished the night with five strikeouts and one walk and allowed a run on five hits in six innings. He threw 90 pitches — 52 for strikes. (Rogers)

2/22/21

Sophomore-eligible by age for the 2021 draft, Hansen is still regaining his strength after battling covid-19. He was down from past looks as the 6-foot-2, 200-pound lefty struggled on the bump during a relief appearance in the Longhorns’ opener on Saturday against Mississippi State. His fastball ranged from 86-89, tickling 90 one time. More typical for the confident lefty is a fastball in the 89-92 range, while running it up to 93-94 mph on occasion. At his best Hansen also attacks the zone with a pair of quality secondary offerings, including a low-80s slider and 81-82 mph changeup. He’ll also flash and command a fourth offering with a curveball which was 74-77 mph on this look. In addition to his excellent makeup, Hansen controls the strike zone as evidenced by 18 strikeouts vs two walks in 17 IP during the 2020 season. Look for Hansen to fully recover, regain his strength and start pumping filth by mid-season.

8/15/20

Hansen is a premier pitcher and prospect for good reason. The scary thing about Hansen is that he didn’t get a full freshman season and still has room to get much better. Hansen has a good-looking pitcher body at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, and he exudes confidence when he takes the mound. The talented lefthander was off to a terrific start in 2020 with 18 strikeouts and just two walks in 17 innings. From a stuff standpoint, look for Hansen to throw even harder moving forward. In the fall, he was 89-91 and up to 92 mph during one look we had, while this past spring, he was more 89-92 and up to 93-94 mph with the offering. Hansen also attacks the zone with a pair of quality secondary offerings, including a low 80s slider and 81-82 mph changeup. He’ll also flash and command a fourth offering with a curveball. In addition to terrific makeup, Hansen has excellent control of the strike zone and seems to know exactly where his pitches are going — a rarity for such a young pitcher. Hansen will be right on the deadline for being draft-eligible.

7/13/18 @ USA PDP - Texas commit, second viewing and first since a less than stellar outing at Boras Classic last March. Lean and athletic body, good pitcher build, body works easily. Remains one of the left-handed pitchers to be aware of in the 2019 class in the region. Clean arm action, overhand slot, can repeat, good direction, as he gainsstrength he should be able to manipulate a three pitch repertoire quite nicely. Stuff may not ever get to low 90s but he's got a chance to pitch a bit lower than that. Fastball up to 86 mph with some life and late into the zone, big curveball with good spin and can get it deep into the zone. Four batter outing (K 86 up, 1B, F9 FB away, backward K on CB).
