Physical: 6-0, 185 pounds; Athletic, average build. 6.61 runner in the 60.
Offensively: RHH. Even setup, with feet just outside his shoulders; flat bat to start. Short take back with the hands with an up and down stride for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing an average effort from the legs. Showed a moderate swing path with a two handed finish. More line drives than flyballs and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 92.00 MPH via Trackman. Athletic actions. Limited power, hands dominant, and natural hitting ability.
Defensively: Starts with a compact setup; uses prep hop while utilizing a quick first step. Hands work through the ball with a seamless transfer. Moderate arm circle from a high 3/4 arm slot. INF - 75.00 MPH. OF - 85.00 MPH. Smooth outfield ability with the footwork that plays in the infield. Clean hands that get rid of the ball quickly.
PBR CA STATE GAMES - Athletic and quick footed medium frame with space for added strength to keep improving overall game. Leadoff type of guy with ability to get offense started as evident by coming up to start game looking for FB and getting for a knock. Multiple hits over the weekend and multiple stolen bases showing his instincts. Loose hands showing balance through contact with sl open stance; chance for bat to be very impressive. Showed strong reactions at SS with ability to knock balls down and have an understanding of his range making lots of strong plays. Arm can continue to make jumps, but was one of the more impressive players for SoCal Underclass.
9/23/18 - Rising Stars Showcase - Five-foot-8, 140-pounds, medium frame with wiry strength throughout the body. ONe of the best defenders we had at the event, Rodriguez shows range to both sides with quick, fluid footwork. Hands are soft and fast while his movements are athletic. Plays through balls on the dirt and has enough arm strength to make throws from multiple angles. Plays under control and shows a high baseball IQ. Throws are accurate and flash carry across the diamond. At the plate Rodriguez's fast hands are on display as he drives the barrel of the bat through the ball on a consistent, level plane. Has feel for the barrel as he consistently squared up and drove balls to the gaps. Is short to the ball and long through it with sneaky power. Shows a middle approach but has the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields. Starts slightly crouched and open and uses a toe-tap trigger to initiate his swing. Finishes balanced and extended.
