2/21-23/19 3 Games - Marinconz is a stud on defense showing off quick feet, a soft glove and arm to play at SS for the future. He made some tough plays look routine all weekend showing quickness and range to both sides; he’s really a pitcher's best friend in the infield and can also range into the OF for pop ups. His medium, compact frame has strength in the upper half and uses his quick feet down the line as well (4.15-4.27) playing hard and regularly busting out of the box. The bat made a lot of hard contact to the pull side over the weekend without having anything fall in. At the plate he stands slightly open and balanced with even hands using a quick foot lift to get in time as the hands work back in rhythm under control. Marinconz showed a quick bat that produces loft to the pull side, having times where he can get a little long around the ball. He also showed the ability to handle the bat, dropping down a drag for a base hit and moving guys on a Sac to help set up the tying run in Game 2 against Carroll. If some of that hard contact begins to fall, watch out for Marinconz in the rankings late in the season.
2/16/19 vs De La Salle - smoked a double into the RCF gap after Park’s 2B showing off his wheels with a 4.40 time on the turn. His pre-game showed off his defensive skills with plus range and an easy, loose arm that could make every throw in the infield. The Cal Poly commit, will hit in the middle of the order for the Warriors and will be a key cog in their offensive wheel while being a force on defense in the middle of the diamond.
7/13/18 - Cal Poly commit, evaluation at USA PDP workout, continued to show professional type hitting approach, worked middle of field by peppering line drives, disciplined approach was noticeable among many talented kids trying to launch balls over the wall. Flat swing, has look of a 'hit-getter' with quick hands and a quiet body. Defensively showed off quick release, sure hands and arm that can approach average on a pro scale due to his release and ability to play clean, occasional patterning of feet to get rid of the ball. Live at-bats showed his balance and good barrel awareness and flat line drive swing.
2/21/18 - Cal Poly commit, the 5-foot-11 170-pound Marinconz is a compactly built middle infielder with agility and first step quickness in the middle of the diamond. He has soft hands and plays through the ball well with skilled footwork, with a quick release and strong arm that carries across the diamond. Around the bag he plays calm and strong, with a good center of gravity. Marinconz plays easy and seems to understand the rhythms of the game. Offensively he is an aggressive hitter, particularly early in the count. He has fast hands and an efficient short (but aggressive) swing, with good top hand finish that allows him drive the ball with more power than his size would suggest he has. He is able to generate some pop but is best when staying in the middle of the field and gap to gap. However, he can hunt a pitch in a location and get into one. One of the better 'baseball players' in the 2019 class in Northern California.
