6/27/20

Body: 5-foot-11, 185 pounds. Physical and athletic medium build, ideal for the catching position. Physical maturity for his age with present strength throughout. Will do well in the storied Torero weight and conditioning program.

Hit: Right-handed hitter. Hitting set up; stands in athletic and loose, keeps hands low and back, loads with a leg lift coil, hands work low to high to launch the ball in the air, does a nice job clearing his hips. Bat speed averaged 67.2 mph and rotational acceleration average of 15.5 g, according to Blast Motion. Bat speed metric currently shows that he is able to propel his bat at contact at the average ideal range at the college level and lower end ideal average at the professional level. Shor’s rotational acceleration is close to the major league ideal average of 16.8g; indicating that he is able to reach peak bat speed quickly, a clear indication of why he is able to cover both sides of the plate and hit batting practice home runs. There is room for improvement in his ability to stay on plane and consistently barrel up balls.

Power: Trackman data shows that his average exit speed is 85.11 mph, with exit speed contact averages on inside and outside pitches even across the board. Personal best exit speed of 95.09 mph with a launch angle of 16.41°. Showed off his present power with two batting practice home runs: 343.41 ft - 89.83 mph exit speed - 24.22° launch angle • 339.54 ft - 91.92 mph exit speed - 25.90° launch angle. Shor’s ability to clear his front side and handle both sides of the plate help enable his current power and project well at the next level.

Field: Showed energy, confidence, passion and feel at the catching position. Maturity was on display with the way he handled the pitchers and the energy he brought to the catching corps. Received with a drop knee set-up, displayed soft hands and the ability to frame pitches. Blocked at an average clip, sometimes popping up too early, rushing the throws. Moved well laterally and has the ideal catchers frame for blocking. Pitchers showed more confidence with him as a catcher than with others.

Arm: Catcher arm velocity reading of 74 mph, 7th out of 10. Showed a quick release and good throwing mechanics. Keeps his hand close to his body and glove helping enable his quick release. Throws were on target and consistently on the bag. Posted a pop time average of 2.00-2.09, 5th out of 10. Slightly below-average catching arm that will need to improve at the next level in order to take the next step in the professional process.

Run: 7.24 60 yard dash. Second fastest amongst the ProCase catchers.

Summary: Shor has the look and feel of a starting catcher at the college level and a bat that will put him on draft boards. Energy and passion goes a long way at the catching position with Shor putting that on display throughout his showing. Arm strength development along with more consistency barrelling balls could put Shor on the MLB draft radar in 2021 and no question in 2023.

8/17/19

PBR CA STATE GAMES - Physical and athletic medium build with current strength and some space to keep firming up. One of the best players in the state in 2021 class with high level energy and pure passion to compete; stood out all weekend on and off the field. Balanced and even hands at the plate with above-average bat speed working on upward path through the zone; consistently found barrels all weekend and showed off his power with BIG HR to LCF into the wind along with multiple other hits. Behind the dish consistently works keeping balls in front of him with excellent blocking skills; athleticism shows up with quick feet. Above average arm keeps balls on the bag with consistent pop times on the bag (1.97-2.05). Tools are all consistently solid behind the dish and loved his game knowledge. Continues to show why he’s one of the best players in 2021 class.

7/17/19

Shor is a rugged, durable, physical catcher at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. The San Diego commit has the prototypical catchers build with continually developing flexibility in the hips and into the ankles. Sets up deep before lifting a tick when receiving. Hands are soft and his transitions clean. Arm is strong and accurate (1.93-2.0, 77 mph) with throws on the bag. Shows his power more consistently with improving bat/hand speed. Is able to maintain barrel on plane through the hitting zone while adjusting its path according to the pitch.

1/19/19

USD commit. Shor stood out after watching him go through a pro-style workout at the SoCal Preseason All-State. He did not disappoint. Sturdily-built with a barrel chest and some defined strength throughout a 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame, the San Diego recruit hit balls with authority to all fields throughout the weekend. Controlling the barrel with a strong bottom hands that enables effortless lag in the zone, Shor exhibited a propensity to drive the ball to the opposite field. Setting up in a slight crouch and balanced, he shifts back with a reverse toe-tap before whipping the barrel through the zone. Playing with high-energy, he demonstrates the ability to receive and block well while consistently hovering around a 2.0 to second base between innings showcasing adequate, accurate arm strength.

1/05/19

SoCal Preseason All-State - 5-foot-10, 175-pounds, USD commit. Strong stocky build with little projection remaining in his frame. Batting from the right side, Shor has a nice compact swing. Has excellent present bat speed, and the ball jumps off the bat. Gap-to-gap power presently with over-the-fence power potential. Very impressive hitter for his age. Defensively, Shor is very confident behind the plate, and makes all the right plays. He is quick on his feet and he moves very well for a guy his size. He blocks balls very well and keeps the ball out in front of him. Receiving skills are very impressive, soft hands and locates the ball well. Made strong accurate throws with carry to them. Pop times ranged from 1.92-2.08.

12/09/18

Shor continues to impress me with his overall game, but it's his effort, attitude, and hustle that really stand out and are certain to take him far in this game. A USD commit, Shor doesn't have much else to prove but he's the first guy out of the dugout to get to his position and the first guy out to congratulate a teammate. It's an attitude that's contagious in that dugout. Add all that to his obvious talents behind and at the plate and what you have is a player that programs win with.

8/01/18

SoCal Underclass Games - Five-foot-10, 170-pounds, large frame with strength throughout particularly in the lower half. Squared shoulders with strength down through the arms. Shor, the 9th ranked player in the Class of 2021 Top 25, was as impressive in the little things - jumping in to fill in for a runner, effort on the field, hustle and attitude - as he was with the big things. Started the day with a loud BP session where he showed off his present and projectable strength by banging balls into the gaps on a line. Uses his entire body in his swing. Starts with a controlled high leg kick before exploding through the zone by driving through with fast hips and hands. Power comes easy for Shor who consistently barreled balls up both during BP and in game. Ball jumps off bat. Had a triple to right center field in the game showing his baserunning instincts. Defensively he has a strong base and flashes above average catch-and-throw skills. Arm is quick as is his footwork and shows soft hands. Throws have carry and accuracy popping in the 1.92-2.1 range all day.
