A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Sink+
A fastball with sink has low backspin and drops through the strike zone. When thrown down in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher ground ball percentage and lower launch angle. Sink+ of 100 is MLB average.
Fastball
Rise+
A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Curveball
Hammer+
A hammer breaking ball drops vertically with velocity through the zone, or 12-to-6 movement. Hammer+ of 100 is MLB average.
Curveball
Sweep+
A sweeping breaking ball moves horizontally with velocity through the zone. Sweep+ of 100 is MLB average.
Positional Profile: OF/RHP Body: 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. Long legs, wide shoulders, looks like will be a big man someday. Defense: Easy approach to ball, good reads on hops, bit of lack of urgency to the ball, hands and feet work in coordination to get off throws while maintaining body control. Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. Loose arm, works from 3/4 slot, throws easy w/good rhythm with feet, lacked carry but was generally accurate. Projects as LF type arm. Hit: RHH. Tall setup, narrow base, very slight crouch, hands held slightly above shoulder, starts open, swings stride leg slightly back and then forward similar to modified Trevor Story stride. Sweeps barrel with some length, hips drift quite a ways, lands slightly open as he works to crash at contact, bars lead arm a bit, strong top hand finish with fairly pronounced attack angle. Power: 89 mph exit velocity in cage front toss session. Run: 8.07 runner in the 60.
Delivery: Coordinated hands/feet rhythm, high knee lift near chest high, down and glides down slope, long stride, firm stable plant foot, finishes backside. Arm Action: RH. Long circular backside, clean arm action, loose, high-3/4 slot FB: T77, 76-77 mph. Creates ample run w/some length through zone. CB: 63-65 mph. Smallish break, rolling action, minimal depth. CH: 66-67 mph. Big late arm side fade off the plate.

Pitching - Riverside County Preseason All-State - Funky right-hander with a solid frame at 6-foot-2 175 pounds. Unique mechanics create deception and show potential for off-setting hitters timing. Released his three-pitch mix from an over-the-top arm slot with a slight pause in the back and a big leg kick. Fastball showed carry at 75-77 mph and looked harder than it read. Showed good command of his 12/6 curveball at 63-64 mph. Change-up shows above-average potential with parachute fade and control at 66-67 mph. Room for growth and likely velocity gains make this funky right-hander an interesting pitcher to watch.
(outfield) This is our third look at Hsu in this type of setting. Hsu’s physical attributes are developing nicely. Showed well in his BP round driving balls in the gaps. Swing was controlled, but violent, and power coming along. Has significant room for adding strength, and twitchyness to his overall game. Displayed an average arm in his defensive session, with the ball fading at times. Developing arm strength and using proper techniques will allow him to improve.

BAWS 2019 - Medium, long frame with width in the shoulders; very lean build with space to add strength (7.87 60yd). Slightly open, stance with some bend in the knees keeping hands high with high back elbow; utilizes toe tap that crosses back foot before gaining ground as hands have small lift. Flashes ability to get backside through the ball with roll over of his front foot. Barrel has longer turn staying level through the zone before lifting out front; linedrives to the pull side flashing some carry and lift (74 EV). Strung together some good AB’s with a couple of hard contacts to the OF from aggressive swings. Longer stride flashing some body control and ability to chop his feet to work through it; funnels the ball up to arm with fair glove work. Arm is longer with quick release; needs to work on strengthening arm (72 MPH). On mound keeps hands tight to waist with very high front knee showing some control of his hips; changes his timing with pauses on side step. Arm is long out of the glove to 3/4 release; shoulders have times where he opens early making arm not time up with body. FB 72-74 T75 using to both sides of the plate with better angle glove side. CHG 63 straight showing some bottom and fade. CB 59-62 early loop longer with tight spin in 12/6 shape. Both offspeed pitches see him slow his arm for more action; chance for pitches to play up with better armspeed.
