2/13/18 - Cal Poly SLO commit. 6-foot, 170-pound frame, long, lean body structure, strong for his size and frame which projects to add more strength with continued physical development. One of the best juniors in the state. Reigning state sophomore player of the year. Defensively, Ashworth is dynamite in the outfield where he takes good routes to the ball, gets good jumps on the ball and has the speed to cover a lot of ground in spacious ballpark. Has the arm strength to play anywhere in the outfield and the accuracy to make online throws to any bag. Offensively, Ashworth shows an advanced approach to hitting. A selective hitter, he does not chase bad pitches. Using a slightly closed stance with high, active hands, Ashworth drives his quiet lower half into the ball. Covers the plate well as demonstrated by his single to the left side off at 77 mph curveball on the outer half. Showed his speed on a steal which we clocked 3.21 off a left-handed pitcher.
