at De La Salle - 6-foo-2, 170-pounds, very athletic build with broad shoulders. Shows a very disciplined approach at the plate, looks for one pitch in his zone and will lay off anything else, not afraid to hit with two strikes and work the count. Short load, very little movement pre pitch. Has a quick but smooth swing, fast hands, with balance throughout the swing gives him ability to hit any pitch hard. Willing to hit the ball wherever it is pitched, showed he can stay up the middle but also can take pitches on the outside corner down the right field line. Seems like he strives for big moments and wants to be the guy up with the game on the line. Defensively he has the prototypical build for a shortstop, long arms, quick feet, very strong arm with a short arm swing for quick release, fluid fielding motion works through the ball well with range to both sides.
at Acalanes - Another guy who should start getting some college interest soon. Durflinger can really play and put together good at-bats out of the leadoff spot. Would like to see him relax his upper half and have a softer stride at the plate which would limit his head movement, but he still has a knack for finding the barrel. Doesn’t chase out of the zone often, but he could be more aggressive on pitches in the zone. On defense impressed during pre-game once again and the arm and athleticism should allow him to stick at short, but could also see him playing 2nd well too.
Durflinger caught my eye during pre-game showcasing a big time arm. Ball really carried and he showed he could make all the plays. He also showed soft hands and good footwork. Overall was really smooth and looked the part at SS. Has a tall, lean body. Plenty of room to fill out, but has some present strength you can see. At the plate showed a good approach not swinging at pitches out of the zone. Would have liked to see him a bit more aggressive on pitches in the zone. Has a slightly open setup but gets to a good position to hit with his lower half. Upper body and his hands are stiff in his setup and load, but he showed the ability to turn on the baseball with a hit down the third baseline. This is a guy to follow closely this season as he could make a name for himself in Northern California this year.
