No. 33 in our Top 100 JUCO prospects ranking, Aguiar struggled in this look, failing to record three outs. Arm was lively with a low 90s fastball. 2500+ rpm spin rate shows some projection. Ability to command the fastball and development of swing and miss breaking ball will be key to future success. Potential to be a quality D1 bullpen arm.
1/30/19 - Long Beach State commit. Six-foot-2, 175-pounds. Long, lean, wiry strong frame with long limbs - legs are very long - and squared shoulders with strength down into the wrists. Aguiar works from a repeatable 3/4 slot with a loose, easy arm. Ball jumps out of his hands and gets on hitters in a hurry after a deliberate dip-and-drive delivery where he keeps the ball hidden in the back. Adding to the deception is a high leg kick that brings his knee into his chest. Fastball shows life as it enters the zone and hints of cut action. He starts the pitch just above the knees and generates excellent downhill plane keeping the pitch at the bottom of the zone. Changeup is a potential plus pitch that flashes splitter-like action diving to the back foot of right handed hitters. Throws pitch from same slot and arm speed as fastball with same downhill plane. Shows two types of curveballs. One is slurvy with late diving action, the other is more the traditional 11/5 shaped late breaking ball that he drops in for strikes. Also hits in the middle of the order for Millikan. Has an upright stance with hands close to the chest. Average present bat speed but shows feel for the barrel. Clocked 4.32 H-1 from the left side on an infield single.
