Solidly built at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Kasevich fills out the uniform well with present strength and an overall athletic frame. Simply put, he's a "ballplayer" who might not possess an elite, standout tool but is successful and consistent based on the sum of his parts. At shortstop, he moves easily with crisp footwork and polished fielding actions, yet lacks an elite first step or burst. He handles the ball to his glove side with good rhythm and tempo. Arm is average to slightly above average with effortless carry across the diamond. His passion for the game was evident immediately as he was laying out for balls on defense during pre-game batting practice. If he doesn't stick at shortstop long-term, he'll be more than capable of handling second base. At the plate his pitch recognition and strike zone discipline are his strongest attributes. He's currently sporting a BB/K ratio of 17/7 through 35 games and 139 at-bats. He sets up in the bot with upright posture and direction straight towards the pitcher. Takes a low leg lift into a short forward stride while using a minimal load with his hands to create separation. Lands under control and consistently stays in his lower half. Swing is quick to the zone with a flat path into contact. Very minimal lift from the swing limits his ability to hit for power but it doesn't appear to be a priority for him as he was content staying in the middle of the field throughout our two game look. Had a few instances where his timing was off and he landed a bit hard on his front side, causing his swing to get downhill and either chop grounders up the middle or get underneath the ball. Not a huge cause of concern as he shows enough barrel control and plate discipline to make quick adjustments. Overall there is much more hit than power from Kasevich, but you get the sense watching him in person that it's more by design and not so much of physical limitation. When you see how much power the Oregon lineup hits for, it's easy to see why Kasevich can stay within his approach. Regardless of if more power shows up, Kasevich is a safe bet as a prospect with a high floor who likely comes off the board in the third-to-fifth round range. (Dan Jurik)
Boras Classic - Oregon commit. Durable stocky frame, good infield feet, range is fine for 3B and takes good angles to the ball, aggressive pull side approach, barrel awareness is good, physically he will have to maintain positive growth particularly with the lower body.
