5/2/18 - Aggressive athlete who is having a breakout season offensively. Showed average arm strength with solid carry from left field, although it played down a bit due to his long gather to throw. Will need to shorten his footwork and lessen his release time in the future. Above average runner underway with above average range which he showed while making a nice running catch in the left-center gap. Aggressive hit approach. His starting position and hand load/leg lift remind me of Javier Baez. Strong, loose hands produce very good bat speed. Ball comes off his bat hot and carries with good backspin. Connects and extends well for plus raw power to all fields. The ball generally did not carry well at Sunken Diamond, but that wasn’t the case for Davis. During Saturday’s batting practice, he hit three consecutive home runs to the opposite field. He also homered to left-center during Thursday’s game and blasted another one to dead center field in the eighth inning on Saturday. Gets everything that he has into his swing with a lot of moving parts, making him susceptible to the timing of off speed pitches. Career 26.8% strikeout percentage (29.8% this spring). Looked like he hits left-handed pitchers equally as well as righties. He took some very good at-bats against Stanford lefty Bubic on Saturday night. As for his draft value, the high strikeout totals don’t transfer well to pro ball and many analytics heavy clubs will shy away, but his athleticism and power are hard to ignore. Look for Davis to be selected around the 10th round.
