Sacramento State signee. Saw at Boras Classic. Muscular, flexible, agile, extremely strong and mobile athlete on the field. Pronounced muscular strength in lower half, upper half frame has lots of upside to grow into. Heads up player, pre-pitches every pitch on time, excellent jumps on contact allows himself very good range and nimbleness for the shortstop position. Fundamental fielding hands, can release into throw from where the ball is received. Ball accelerates across the field into 1st baseman's glove.
Sacramento State signee, the 6-foot-0 190-pound Gibbons is a well-proportioned and athletically built two-way player at the high school level and a pitcher at the D1 level. He's got a middle infielder type arm action that works from a 3/4 slot, with an athletic and repeatable delivery. His athleticism plays on the mound not just in his fluid and rhythmic delivery, but also as a defender, where he gets off the mound well and makes more plays than an average pitcher. Gibbons stuff is crisp, with an 88-91 mph fastball he can locate and allows him to set up hitters to finish them with a 79-81 mph slider that has late bite. His third pitch is a changeup, which he also throws for quality strikes. Gibbons is a legitimate two-way player and was recruited as such. He is a high level defender up the middle, shows good plate discipline at the plate, and generally impacts the game in a positive way no matter where he is, on the mound or at plate or on bases or in the field.
