1/19/19 - Dean's physicality at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds stands out on the diamond, and he looks leaner than when I last saw him in October. Playing exclusively right field throughout the weekend, the UCLA recruit exhibited confident hands with efficient routes to go along with a strong throwing arm. At the plate, his timing was a bit off early on in the season as his hands tended to push away from the body after a segmented, stagnant load, which created a longer path to the ball, and caused him to get jammed on several occasions, though he showed enough strength to fight a couple of balls off for hits. The athleticism and frame clearly stand out, and his timing should continue to improve as the season evolves.
10/22/18 - OF Emanuel Dean (Servite HS, CA), a UCLA commit, continues to be an intriguing draft prospect. At 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, Dean immediately stands out at the plate, and his quick hands drive the barrel on a flat path through the zone. He smacked a double down the left field line, turning on the pitch with ease.
3/2/2018 – UCLA commit. 6-foot-2, 205-pound possesses a physical maturity not seen very often in HS baseball players. Dean, a former running back, now has turned his focus onto baseball. Dean has tools. He's athletic, big, strong, fast, and has an above average arm with +bat speed. Because of his athleticism, any hitting flaw is correctable with minor mechanical modifications. Presently, there is swing-and-miss in the bat with an unrefined approach; however, it has you dreaming of bigger things to come. Pitch identification and recognizing secondary pitches is going to determine Dean's long-term success as a hitter.
