vs Clayton Valley - USF commit; came on in relief of 2020 LHP Logan Hurd and he slammed the door on Clayton Valley with 2.2 strong innings (2 H, BB, 5 K, 0 R). He came in w/two runners on and one out then proceeded to go through the top three hitters in the order (F9, BB, 5-3). From there he started to pile on the strikeouts, including punching out the side in 6th inning. Lean body, overhand slot, quick arm, aggressive demeanor. There is some herkiness and jerkiness in his delivery which could distract some hitters. The fastball was a crisp 87-88 mph and the curveball had some depth and steep angle (72-74 mph). Saw him last season and he was a slider heavy pitcher. Throws more fastballs now and his breaking ball has changed. Either way, he comes in with good presence and energy and seems to be very comfortable in a relief role.
6/03/18
6/1/18-6/3/18 - BAWS 2018 - Body description from previous outing holds up. High front knee with slight back turn. Utilizes a compact 3/4 arm action from a stretch only look. Very quick arm with ability to dial up speed as needed. Fastball 84-88 showing life through the zone and angle down through the lower half of the zone. Really attacks inner half of plate setting up slider. Slider 72-75 small late downer action; times where stays up when trying to overthrow. Showed ability to manipulate shape in counts and times where he got into back foot of left-handed hitters.
2/24/18
at Vacaville HS - Lean and limber 6-foot-2 170-pound right-hander, high-3/4 slot approaches overhand at times, arm works pretty easily and as he fills out he has some natural velocity gains ahead of him, has some head action that indicates maybe a lower slot would suit him. Delivery is a bit unorthodox with some herky jerky movements, lots of moving parts that a hitter would see but actually are small and don't hinder his ability to stride online, does tends to rotate offline toward 1B line in his finish. Primarily used his slider and simply showed the fastball, slider break is true and as he can get stronger the bite will increase. Showed feel for starting it in the zone and getting chases. Also has a changeup he finished well.
