Positional Profile: RHP/OF Physical: 5-10, 170-pounds; Athletic, muscular build. 7.59 runner in the 60. Pitching: Uses a center rubber setup while using an angled drop step. Delivery: Starting with hands at waist, big movements is what you see most. Derek starts with hands over head with a deep drop step into his wind up. With a big leg kick he gathers nicely over the mound. Loose over the top delivery, works downhill on most pitches
FB: His max fast ball was 78 mph, very deceptive with all the moving parts.
CB: Slow moving curveball, see the hump early as it dropz into the zone.
SL: Working off of his fastball the slider works laterally across the zone

Central Valley Preseason I.D. - Max FB 80, FB 76-77, CB 64-66, SL 72-73, CHG 75-77 Lean and athletically proportioned 5-foot-9, 160-pound body type, body works athletically on the mound and possesses good body control. Mechanically can develop better front side stability/leverage to take advantage of what looked to be better arm speed than the velocity showed. Clean controlled, fairly compact backside arm action, has hand/foot coordination, gets to overhand slot, not much drive with post leg and tall/fall delivery tends to cause him to drift through front side a bit, sapping some power. Flashed makings of three quality pitches and hints of future mid-80s fastball velocity, slider better in this look than curveball, with change-up being a bit firm but thrown confidently. There are reasons to keep this 2022 on the radar and see how he develops.
OF/Batting
7.76 60yd, 77 OF MPH, 77 EV
5-9, 160 with high waist and rounded shoulders showing length through the lower half. From the left-side, stands tall and keeps even hands tight to the frame; slight turn for load before body drifts forward into swing. Barrel is compact and quick working flat through the zone with full two-handed finish; allows swing to make contact out front and produce line drives through the middle of the field. Times where the barrel gets stuck with his hand movement, but a workable fix that was minimal. Tall posture in the OF fielding with high hips and can utilize lower half a bit better to create angles to keep ball on fielding foot; arm is long and loose allowing for arm to show strength and have throws with carry to bags. Arm strength is present and velocity can increase if he gets into his legs to produce throws. Frame has space for more strength/projection.
