PBR Far North Preseason ID - A lean and twitchy type athlete at 5-foot-11, 155-pounds, what tools Thacker possesses now will only improve in the coming years. Yes, he's a senior but the gut-feel here is that he's still got a real nice ceiling he can reach. The raw tools all rate well now and he's really just some physical strength away from making the leap to a higher level of prospect. Offensively he sees the ball well, with good hand speed and though not physical yet, there is a hint of some future pop. Got more comfortable as the round went along and though maybe a bit too much top hand with pull-side approach, he's got a shot. Defensively he showed soft hands and good fielding skills, fielding the ball out front and moving to and through the ball well. Some throws got a little short as he looked to maybe muscle up a bit but the fielding talent and raw arm strength give him a shot play up the middle beyond HS.
10/29/18
10/27-10/29/18 - NCTB Fall Classic - 5-foot-11, 155-pounds, long, extremely lean build with medium frame that has length in torso/legs; will need to add weight for continued projectability, but athletic and wiry frame currently. Open stance with even hands and a flat bat parallel to the ground; uses slight knee tuck with earlier load of hands to get on time. Quick bat that stays level through contact with some top hand finish. Defensively showed range at SS with feet of a middle infielder and ability to control and turn his body to make plays and start double plays. Same athleticism and instincts when moving over to 3B attacking balls and cutting off plays showing a smooth arm with flick throws. Athletic, but not overly fast showing more agility on field and on bases (4.59 INF 1B). On mound showed a strong 3-pitch mix. Hands start high at the face and arm drops out of glove cleanly with his high front knee. The arm was quick and compact to a ¾ release with good rhythm and timing in his delivery. FB 77-80 showing angle to both sides of the plate and a small arm side run that he could throw with feel to the backdoor or under RHH hands. CB 66-69 with 11/5 shape and feel for the pitch; flashed 2-level snap and was able to throw in the zone for strikes early. CHG 72-76 was above average; straight with heaviness off the FB plane showing excellent feel going to the pitch whenever he wanted and feel for really turning the pitch over and letting it run arm side.
