2/24/19: Bat first infielder with a balanced hitting approach. Quiet lower half, controlled stride. Short to the ball with a compact swing. Good bat speed. Could potentially increase his power with more hand load and separation. Spun a little, but barreled the baseball...which is the key to hitting. Attacked the ball in the strike zone while laying off borderline pitches; two walks and two strikeouts in 15 plate appearances this series. Besides the bat, Strumpf's other tools are vanilla. He doesn't project to be much of a base stealer with average speed underway, running a 4.33 down the line to first base. Also, projects to be an average defender with fair footwork and fringe arm strength, yet enough for second base. The clubs who believe he can continue to develop his game power with adjustments and strength gains in pro ball will likely consider him in the top 40 overall picks. And those who don't, won't. Regardless, Strumpf is one of the premier college infield bats for 2019 and most likely will be selected on Day One. (Seifert)
10/11/18: Strumpf arrived at UCLA as a blue-chip recruit, and after struggling with the bat as a freshman he broke out in a huge way as a sophomore, hitting .363/.475/.633 with 12 homers to earn second-team All-America honors. He also showed dramatically improved plate discipline, drawing 45 walks to 53 strikeouts. Strumpf's best tool is his righthanded bat, which produces hard line-drive contact to all fields. He has a level, balanced approach and innate feel for his barrel, giving him a chance to be a plus hitter with above-average power in pro ball. He's a below-average runner, but he has solid defensive instincts and actions at second base, where he projects as an average defender with an average arm. Strumpf's bat should carry him into the top two or three rounds of the 2019 draft if he continues to perform at a high level. (Fitt)
